JOLIET, Ill. - Brett Durand snapped a personal five-start winless streak as the Rockford RiverHawks defeated the Joliet JackHammers, 8-2, Thursday night at Silver Cross Field. The RiverHawks led from the third-batter of the game, and split the four-game series with the JackHammers.

Rich Austin homered, and Jason James went 2-for-4 with three RBI to lead the RiverHawk attack. Josh Flores hit a pinch-hit inside-the-park home run for Joliet.

Rockford jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, with single tallies in the first two innings. John Wagle, led off the game with a double and scored on a one-out sacrifice fly from James. In the second inning, Ian Church scored on a Jono Brooks single.

Rockford blew the game open in the seventh. Brooks led off with a bunt single, and scored on a triple by Jake Eigsti. James added his third RBI with a single to plate Eigsti. Austin cleared the bases with a two-run shot, his fourth of the year, to increase the lead to 7-1. The homer ended the night for Joliet starter Ross Stout.

Stout (5-6) allowed seven runs on ten hits in 6 1/3 innings. It's the first time Stout has lost to Rockford in his career; he was 5-0 in six starts between Windy City and Joliet.

Durand (5-5), who lost to Joliet in relief on Monday, won for the first time since he beat Schaumburg, 10-4, on June 16. Durand allowed one run on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. He also recorded a season high nine strikeouts and four walks.

The RiverHawks open a three-game series at first-place Kansas City. Roger Lincoln (4-4, 5.94) will take the mound for Rockford against T-Bones southpaw Ryan Knippschild (6-4, 4.57). Game starts at 7:05 p.m. from Community America Ballpark.

The RiverHawks' next home game is at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, July 27 against Winnipeg. It's the Big Splash Spectacular and a Two-For Tuesday.
