Goldeyes Bring in Carl, Release Cowgill

Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the signing of right-handed pitcher Edwin Carl.

Carl, 26, began the season with the Schaumburg Boomers of the Frontier League, going 1-5 with a 4.69 ERA in 11 starts. He threw one complete game and racked up 65 strikeouts in 63 1/3 innings pitched. He's a former farmhand of the Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Dodgers, reaching Class AA Northwest Arkansas in the Royals system in 2013. He also played in the Arizona Fall League following the 2012 season, going 0-1 with a 2.77 ERA in 10 relief appearances against the best prospects in baseball.

To make room on the roster, the Goldeyes have released right-handed pitcher Coby Cowgill.

The Goldeyes have 22 players on their active roster, including 12 pitchers and 10 position players.

Carl will take the ball for the Goldeyes this afternoon as they continue a three-game series with the Kansas City T-Bones at Shaw Park. Game time is 1:30 p.m.
