Hartford Yard Goats News Release
HARTFORD- Held to no runs and two hits over seven innings, the Hartford Yard Goats erupted for three runs in the eighth inning for a 3-1 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies Friday night, before a capacity crowd of 6,850. Hartford (21-26) rallied against Milford, CT native Joe Zanghi for its third straight home victory. Chris Rabago's two-out, two-run single capped the scintillating comeback.
It was the 35th sellout crowd at Dunkin' Donuts Park, including 16 straight. Hartford has also played to eight straight capacity crowds and 16 on the season. Yard Goats' season attendance stands at 327,927.
Hartford starter Jack Wynkoop pitched around numerous jams, holding Binghamton (23-28) to one run over six innings, a lead-off home run in the fifth inning by Jason Krizan into the upper deck in right. The southpaw scattered nine hits, walked one and struck out a season-high eight.
Meanwhile, New York Mets 2017 first-round draft pick David Peterson held Hartford to one hit over five innings. The lefty walked two and struck out three.
Hartford's comeback started against Zanghi on a lead-off double by Manny Melendez that fell among three players in shallow center. After Vance Vizcaino reached on an infield hit, moving Melendez to third, Luis Castro followed with a one-out sacrifice fly to knot the contest. Zanghi, a right-hander, then hit Trejo with a pitch and walked Mylz Jones, setting the stage for Rabago's two-run single to right-center, his second hit of the night.
After Justin Lawrence and Tate Scioneaux each pitched a scoreless inning, Rayan Gonzalez entered to register his fourth save and preserve the win for Scioneaux, retiring the Rumble Ponies in order. It was the only inning Binghamton did not collect a hit.
Rabago's two hits and two RBI paced Hartford, while Barrett Barnes and Quinn Brodey each had two hits to lead the Rumble Ponies' 11-hit attack. Binghamton left nine men on base.
Game two of the three-game series is Saturday at 6:05 p.m. In a battle of right-handed pitchers, Matt Dennis draws the starting assignment for Hartford against Tommy Wilson for Binghamton. The game will be broadcast on News Radio 1410 AM, on 100.9 FM, in Spanish on 1120 AM and on the internet on newsradio1410.iheart.com. A fireworks show will follow the game.
