Owen Sound Attack News Release
A true goaltending battle on ice for a Valentine's Day faceoff at the Bayshore left the Attack with little love in a 6-5 loosing shootout. Playing host to the Soo Greyhounds Saturday night, this would mark the Bears' first meeting with the Greyhounds newly acquired Carter George, previously on the Attack's roster since 2023. Making a valiant push, the Bears saw Jake Crawford, Nicholas Sykora, Jared Langdon, Braedyn Rogers and John Banks recorded on the scoreboard. In net for Owen Sound was Goalkeeper Matthew Koprowski making a total of 34 saves of 39 shots.
Jumping right into action the Attack gained control of the puck early in the first period. Defenceman Elliot Arnett would tip forward a fast moving puck to the front of the Greyhounds net, Crawford maintaining it's course, earning a tick on the Attack's board. Halfway through the frame, Sykora would rip home a goal for the Bears from the top of the right-hand circle, the Attack were now on a 2-0 lead.
Greyhounds would answer back in the second period with goals from Brady Smith and Marco Mignosa tying up the scoreboard 2-2. This however would not last long as the Attack regroup for another opportunity on the SOO net. 5 minutes remaining in the frame, Sykora would have another go at a one-timer. Finding the rebound off the deflected puck, Landgon would set the Attack up with another lead breaking the 2-2 tie into a 3-2 Attack led score. Allowing no room to breath, the Attack continued to apply pressure on the Soo's defences, Rogers, fired off a one-timer from the blueline right into the back of the Greyhounds net ending the frame in a 4-2 Attack lead.
the remaining 20 minutes in regulation would see Jeremy Martin score early on the Attack net. On an Attack power play, the Attack rest game play back into the Greyhounds zone. Banks making a top shelf power play goal would restore the two goal lead for the Attack. With under 10 minutes remaining in regulation the Attack would suffer another two goals from the Greyhounds Mignosa and Carson Andrew tying the game 5-5 heading into overtime.
With no relief in overtime, play was shifted to a shootout. A goaltending battle began, with both Matthew Koprowski and Carter George the last lines of defence on their respected teams. In an unfortunate turn of events, the Greyhounds would manage to slip the puck behind the Attack, thus pulling ahead in a 6-5 Soo win.
The Attack will now take on the London Knights for a Family Day game at the TD Life Place for a 2PM showdown. Next on the agenda, Owen Sound will head to Barrie for a Thursday February 19, faceoff at 7PM.
