
Goaltender Jeff Jakaitis Returns from AHL

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today that goaltender Jeff Jakaitis has returned from the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Providence Bruins.
Jakaitis, 30, stands second the ECHL with a 1.72 goals-against average, .937 save percentage and 19 wins, tied for second with three shutouts and ranks fourth with 1573 minutes played. The Rochester, Minnesota, native skated in one game with the Bruins, making 27 saves in a 5-1 loss to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on January 19. Earlier this season, Jakaitis claimed the ECHL Goaltender of the Month Award for October and December and set a new league record by earning the monthly selection four times in his ECHL career.
After joining the Stingrays in December of last season, Jakaitis registered an 8-5-4 record with a 2.34 goals-against average (GAA), .925 save percentage and one shutout in 17 appearances. During the 2011-12 campaign, he went 17-6-2, finished second in the ECHL with a 2.03 GAA and led the league with a .930 save percentage in 26 games with the Gwinnett Gladiators, earning him the ECHL Goaltender of the Year award. Jakaitis also led the ECHL with five shutouts and tied a league record with three consecutive shutouts from December 17-28, 2011 all against the Stingrays.
