Three Trophies Join Stanley Cup at ECHL Hockey Heritage Weekend in Alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces and the ECHL announced today that the Calder Memorial Trophy, Norris Trophy and the Hart Memorial Trophy will join the Stanley Cup at the ECHL Hockey Heritage Weekend presented by CCM, hosted by the Alaska Aces on Feb. 7 and 8.

Sutton Special Risk is the presenting sponsor of the Hockey Hall of Fame display at the event.

The Calder Memorial Trophy is presented annually to the National Hockey League's Rookie of the Year. Notable winners of the trophy include Evgeni Malkin (2006-07), Alexander Ovechkin (2005-06) and Mario Lemieux (1984-85). Anchorage native Scott Gomez was the winner of the Calder Trophy in 1999-2000.

The Norris Trophy is awarded annually to the National Hockey League's top defenseman. Hall of Famer Bobby Orr won the award for a record eight consecutive seasons from 1968-75. Other noteworthy winners of the Norris Trophy include Paul Coffey, Nicklas Lidstrom and Ray Bourque. Rod Langway, who played in the ECHL with Richmond during the 1994-95 season and later served as an assistant coach with the Renegades in 1996-97 and 1999-2000, won the award in 1983 and 1984.

The Hart Memorial Trophy is presented annually to the National Hockey League's Most Valuable Player. Wayne Gretzky won the award a record nine times during his career, including eight consecutive seasons from 1979-80 through 1986-87. Gordie Howe received the Hart Trophy six times during his career.

The Stanley Cup will also be making an appearance in Anchorage during the festivities.

Both the Stanley Cup and Kelly Cup will be available for a special viewing and a unique photo opportunity at the ECHL Hall of Fame Luncheon. The seventh class of the ECHL Hall of Fame includes James Edwards, Wes Goldie, Al MacIsaac and John Spoltore.

The 2014 ECHL Hockey Heritage Weekend presented by CCM, begins on Friday, Feb. 7 with the Seventh Annual ECHL Hall of Fame Luncheon presented by BFL Canada to be held at the Sheraton Anchorage Hotel & Spa at 12 Noon. The event continues with two specialty games sponsored by Sutton Special Risk on the nights of Feb. 7 and 8, as the Stockton Thunder take on the Alaska Aces. Both events begin at 7:15 p.m. AKST at Sullivan Arena and will feature historical displays straight from the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, including the Stanley Cup, several other of hockey's most prized trophies, artifacts celebrating the heritage of the game and interactive games for kids to enjoy.
