Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones set a club record with goals seven second apart in the second period to springboard to a 4-2 win over the Elmira Jackals on Saturday night. Barret Ehgoetz picked up a pair of assists to lead the attack, as Cincinnati extended it lead in the North Division to four points over both Johnstown and Elmira.

There was no scoring in the first period, with the Cyclones outshooting Elmira, 9-6. Cincinnati was unable to capitalize on any of three power play chances. Elmira was not able to score on its man-advantage opportunity.

For the 19th time this season, the Cyclones exploded for three goals in a period and built a 3-0 edge. Defenseman Jamie Coghlan's first professional goal coming down the slot opened the scoring at 3:18. Ben Gordon and Barret Ehgoetz handed out the assists. Then, a five-on-three power play for Cincinnati opened the door to more opportunity. Dustin Sproat's ninth goal of the season in a scramble in the slot at 7:47 pushed the lead to 2-0. Matt Syroczynski and Ehgoetz had the helpers on the score. Just seven seconds later, at 7:54, Justin Johnson collected his twelfth score of the campaign from Jake Dietrich and Ben McLeod. Cincinnati outshot the Jackals, 11-9, in the period.

The goals by Sproat and Johnson just seven seconds apart sets the Cyclones club record for fastest two goals. Back on January 5, 2008-Jean-Michel Daoust and James Sixsmith scored nine seconds apart in an 8-6 win over Reading.

Elmira got a goal 16:01 into the third period from Paul McIlveen, his 15th of the year, to reduce the lead to 3-1. An empty net goal from Matt Syroczynski at 18:54 sealed the win. Syroczynski's 15th goal of the season was assisted by Gordon and Bryan O'Hanley. A goal from Wes Cunningham with one second left made the final, 4-2.

The Cyclones are now 31-21-5 on the season, while Elmira is 30-21-5. The Cyclones open a four game road trip with games next weekend (Friday and Saturday) at Reading. The games start at 7pm each night and will both be carried by MAX-FM (97.7 and 99.5).

With the crowd of 5102, the Cyclones are averaging 26.2 percent more fans than 2007-08 through 30 home games. That is the second-largest improvement from last year through 30 games of any professional hockey team in North America (Tulsa-CHL is up 27.1%). Last year, Cincinnati's season attendance improved 36.8 percent over 2006-07-the biggest increase in all of professional hockey. The Cyclones are averaging 2940 per game this season, having welcomed 88,213 fans.
