Utah Grizzlies News Release

Anchorage, Alaska - The New York Islanders have recalled former Utah defenseman Andrew MacDonald from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He will be with the Islanders this evening when they host Buffalo.

MacDonald becomes the second member of last year's Utah team to be recalled to the NHL this year. Trevor Smith made his NHL debut December 31 and scored his first NHL goal January 8 in Calgary.

The Grizzlies are proud to be the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders and their AHL affiliate in Bridgeport.

The 22-year-old played 38 games last year with Utah tallying one goal and 11 assists. During the Grizzlies playoff run, the Nova Scotia native had three goals and nine assists for 12 points in 15 games.

MacDonald was a 2006 draft pick of the Islanders and this season was voted an AHL All-Star for Team Canada.

At the start of the season, 16 former Grizzlies were on NHL rosters. Last year current Grizzlies goaltender Mike Mole was recalled to the Islanders in March.

The Grizzlies (21-19-6-9) return to action Sunday in Alaska as they continue their season long eight-game road trip. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. mountain time.
