ECHL Bakersfield Condors

'Go Army' Jerseys Raise $11,375

April 14, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. - Saturday proved to be a beneficial day for the Bakersfield community, through events before and after the Condors Game Two match against San Diego. The main event was an auction of the team's "Go Army" warm up jerseys, which brought in over $11,000.

The auction was the fourth and final one of the season. Over the four auctions, $57,500 has been raised, extending the franchise record. The jersey that brought in the most was defenseman David Bell, whose sweater earned a bid of $900. The money raised went to the Active 20/30 Club of Bakersfield, who will donate it to children's charities throughout Kern County.

In addition to the jerseys, goaltender Kevin St. Pierre also put up a game-worn mask for bid. The mask raised $1,300, which separately was donated to the local chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. His jersey brought in $700 as well, putting his seasonal total to nearly $6,000 - the fourth-highest total in franchise history, despite spending just one season in Bakersfield. C Paul Willett's franchise record has extended past the $12,000 mark with his jersey finishing second to Bell's on Saturday night.

Prior to the match, KGET-TV 17 and Clear Channel Radio helped the Condors host a "Support the Troops" rally on the Garden Plaza as well. Throughout the event, donations were accepted for the families of Kern County soldiers serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. International phone cards were collected during the event and the game that night. The phone cards will be sent overseas to troops as a part of Kern County Veterans Service's "Operation Uplink". During the night, 31 cards were collected, totaling 2420 minutes.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association also held a "Fill the Skate" collection this weekend. MDA representatives collected donations before the game on Friday in front of Centennial Garden raising a total of $473.

"We'd like to thank everyone for coming out and showing their support," said Condors Assistant GM Chris Freshour. "There was a great crowd for the rally and for the game. There was an air of playoff excitement in the building that night. The players were great about the jersey auction, after a tough night, and were true professionals."

The Condors travel to San Diego this week for Games Three, Four and Five on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at the San Diego Sports Arena. All three games start at 7:00pm. All games, home and away, can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230, with "Condors Countdown" starting 15 minutes prior to face off, with Condors Broadcaster Kevin Bartl handling the play-by-play.

While all three games in San Diego will be played, Game Six back in Bakersfield is contingent upon those results. If necessary, it will be played at Centennial Garden on Sunday, April 20th, with a special 6:00pm start. Tickets for this game will go on sale as soon as the game is certain to be played. If both teams reach two wins in the series, Game Six will be necessary.

Individual tickets can be purchased at the Centennial Garden Box Office, which opens at 10:00am Monday through Saturday, and at noon on event days. They can also be purchased by phone by calling Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at ticketmaster.com or stopping by any Ticketmaster location. Season tickets and group outings may be purchased by calling 324-PUCK (7825) or by visiting the Condors office next to Centennial Garden.

Condors droppings: The Condors website auction of the month is the "All for One" package. It gives the winner the chance to win one of every Condors giveaway item from this season and have each item autographed by one of the Condors. Log on to www.bakersfieldcondors.com to place your bid. All proceeds benefit the American Red Cross - Kern County Chapter.
