Bakersfield Condors News Release
Upcoming week of April 14th - April 20th:
· Monday, April 12th - Condors Director of Community Relations, John Ayre will be reading to preschool children at the Beale Memorial Library's Storytime at the Beale Library from 10:30 am - 11:30 am. The Beale Memorial Library is located at 701 Truxtun Avenue.
· Wednesday, April 16th - Colonel Claw'd will be visiting the East Bakersfield Kids Club's Activity Night from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm. The East Bakersfield Kids Club is a club designed by the Kern County Sheriff Department and works in conjunction with the Boys and Girls Club of Bakersfield. The Kids Club is located at the Bakersfield Sheriff Department's East Substation at 1700 Flower Street.
· Thursday, April 17th - Join the "Voice of the Condors", Kevin Bartl as he hosts the Condors Coach's Show on KGEO AM 1230. The Coach's Show will be held this week from San Diego, as the Condors will be taking on the San Diego Gulls for games three, four, and five of the first round of the Taylor Cup Playoffs. The show is held on KGEO Hot Talk 1230 from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm.
· Sunday, April 20th - Join the Condors when they host the San Diego Gulls for a potential Game 6 of the opening round of the WCHL playoffs. The latest sports giveaway craze hits Bakersfield, as KGET-TV 17, Clear Channel Radio, and Active 20/30 Club sponsor ThunderStix Giveaway Night. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a pair of Condors ThunderStix. While all three games in San Diego will be played, Game Six back in Bakersfield is contingent upon those results. If necessary, it will be played at Centennial Garden on Sunday, April 20th, with a special 6:00pm start. Tickets for this game will go on sale as soon as the game is certain to be played. If both teams reach two wins in the series, Game Six will be necessary. Individual tickets can be purchased at the Centennial Garden Box Office, which opens at 10:00am Monday through Saturday, by calling Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at www.ticketmaster.com or stopping by any Ticketmaster location. If there is a game on Sunday, the box office will open at noon. Season and group tickets may be purchased by calling 324-PUCK (7825) or by visiting the Condors office next to Centennial Garden.
Week in Review:
· Friday, April 11th - The Condors hosted the San Diego Gulls for Game One of the opening round of the WCHL playoffs. KGET-TV 17, Clear Channel Radio, and Active 20/30 Club sponsored ThunderStix Giveaway Night. Every fan in attendance received a pair of Condors ThunderStix. The Condors also helped out the Muscular Dystrophy Association - Bakersfield District, with a "Fill the Skate" event this weekend. MDA representatives collected donations before the game from 5:15 pm - 7:00 pm in front of the Garden raising a total of $473. Fans that made a donation to the "Fill the Skate" fundraiser received a voucher for $2.00 off any ticket purchase for Game Two of the Taylor Cup Playoffs.
· Saturday, April 12th - The Condors hosted the San Diego Gulls for KGET-TV 17, Clear Channel Radio, and Active 20/30 Club "Jersey off our Back" Raffle and Auction. The Condors "Go Army" pre-game warm up jerseys were auctioned off after the game. The jerseys raised $11,375, bringing the season's "Jersey off Our Backs" raffle and auction total to a Condors single season record, $57,500. All proceeds from the jersey auction will be donated to the Active 20/30 Club, which will be distributing the funds to local children's charities. Also, before the game, KGET-TV 17 hosted a Support the Troops Rally on Centennial Plaza. Fans were encouraged to bring pre-paid phone cards to the rally for donation to Kern County Veterans Service's, Operation Uplink. A total of 31 cards for 2,420 minutes were donated to Kern County troops overseas.
