San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO -- We weren't lying when we said this series was going to be close. And after the first two games in Bakersfield, the series couldn't be any tighter. Now it's back to San Diego for the next three.
Do you want to know just how tight this series has been? Well just look at the numbers: Through the first two games San Diego has four goals (which includes an empty-netter). Bakersfield has three goals. The Condors have 70 shots, while San Diego has mustered 60. Then you have both goaltenders - Trevor Koenig and MVP Kevin St. Pierre - who have been all but perfect. Anyone want to make a prediction on a winner yet?
NOTES: San Diego is 15-4 all-time against Bakersfield in the postseason... The Gulls have never been eliminated in the first round... David Neale missed the first two games with food poisoning...
TRANSACTIONS: None.
COMMUNITY UPDATE: April 7: The Gulls held their Pucks & Pasta Charity dinner at the Downtown Hard Rock Café, supporting City of Hope's National Medical Research Center. Fans who attended took part in question and answer sessions with Gulls players, raffles and auctions for autographed memorabilia.
RECAP:
Gulls 1 @ CONDORS 2 (OT), Friday, April 11: Jason Jackman scored 11:21 into overtime to give Bakersfield a 2-1 win and 1-0 series lead. San Diego trailed in the game 1-0 until Sylvain Deschatelets tied it with 7:24 left in regulation. In overtime, the Gulls failed to register a shot while Jackman scored on Bakersfield's seventh.
GULLS 3 @ Condors 1: Saturday, April 12: Koenig took a blindsiding hit in the second period and left the game, barely under his own power. He returned in the third period and helped the Gulls hold on and send the series back to San Diego tied. The Condors grabbed an early 1-0 lead on Paul Willett's power-play goal 10:25 into the first. San Diego answered three minutes later on Deschatelets' power-play marker. Cory Cyrenne put the Gulls up for good midway through the second and Deschatelets sealed the 'W" with an empty-netter.
THIS WEEK:
The series shifts back to San Diego for games 3 and 4 Tuesday and Wednesday, both starting at 7 p.m. The Gulls will host Game 5 Friday at 7:30 p.m. All games can be heard live on AM1130-KSDO with Chris Ello calling the play-by-play. You can listen to the Gulls Internet Radio Show's archives anytime on wsradio.com, with Tera Black and Jeremy Zager hosting.
