Falcons Split Games One and Two
April 14, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release
The Fresno Falcons earned a split this past weekend during Games One and Two of their first round Taylor Cup Playoffs series with the Idaho Steelheads at the Bank of America Centre in Boise.
Game One of the best-of-seven series was a tight, hard-fought contest, which was ultimately won by Idaho, 3-2, following Adam Copeland's game-winning goal with just 58.1 seconds to play in regulation. The game's high emotions spilled over into a post-game brawl just as the final buzzer was about to sound, resulting in a five-game suspension for Fresno's David Haas for leaving the bench during the incident.
The Falcons' continued physical play seemed to wear on the Steelheads during Game Two, as they took several retaliatory penalties. Fresno cashed in two five-on-three power plays early in the second period to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead on their way to a convincing 5-2 victory. Five different Falcons tallied goals during the winning effort, and Mark Gowan earned the win in net by making 26 saves.
With the series tied at one game apiece, Fresno now controls home-ice advantage with Games Three, Four and Five on tap this week at Selland Arena. If necessary, Game Six and/or Seven will be played back at the Bank of America Centre.
TITLE DEFENSE PLAYOFF RALLY TONIGHT AT THE ELBOW ROOM
Falcons fans will have the chance to deliver their best playoff wishes to the team in person during a playoff rally tonight at the Elbow Room in Fig Garden Village from 6 p.m. â 8 p.m. The Title Defense rally will feature head coach Blaine Moore and captain Jason Weaver, who will each say a few words to the crowd beginning at approximately 6:45 p.m.

Fresno and Idaho resume pleasantries this Wednesday, Apr. 16, at 7 p.m. and Friday, Apr. 18, at 7:30 p.m. with Games Three and Four of the series at Selland Arena.
