Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Florida Everblades used two first period goals by Matt Hendricks to cruise past the Gwinnett Gladiators 5-2 on Tuesday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center halting Gwinnett's winning streak at six games.
Hendricks gave the Florida Everblades a 1-0 lead 1:51 into the opening period as he was able to pull Gladiators netminder T.J. Aceti out of his goal and roll the puck into the net. David Lundbohm and Brad Church added the assists on the goal for the Everblades.
Florida extended its lead to 2-0 on Hendricks' second goal of the night. The forward squirted free in the slot and ripped a snap shot past Aceti for the tally as Shane Hnidy picked up an assist and Church added his second helper on the goal at 8:40 of the first period.
Brad Church walked in on Aceti untouched and beat the netminder over the shoulder to give the Everblades a 3-0 lead 6:02 into the second period on the power play. Steve Saviano added an assist on the goal as he found Church open in the slot. Chris Lee also picked up an assist on the goal.
Mike Vigilante cut into the Florida lead as he pounced on a rebound 15 feet inside the Florida blue line and ripped a snap shot past Everblades netminder Craig Kowalski for the tally. Peter Flache picked up an assist on the goal at 7:47 of the second period as he walked the puck into the zone to set up the play.
Keith Anderson regained the three-goal advantage for the Everblaeds as he flew down the wing on a breakaway and beat Aceti for the tally. Matt Hendricks sprung Anderson on the play to pick up an assist on the goal at 11:30 of the second period.
Jeff Campbell found a loose puck in a pile up in front of the Florida net and jammed the puck past Kowalski to cut the Everblades lead in half at 10:24 of the third period. Cam Brown and Rick Emmett added the assists on the 2-man advantage power play goal.
Gwinnett could get no closer as Florida picked up an empty net goal to put the game away with 28 seconds left in the final stanza. A diving Kris Vernarsky whacked the puck into the net for the tally. Brad Church and Tim O'Connell picked up the assists on the goal.
With the loss, the Gladiators winning streak was snapped at six wins while Gwinnett falls to 11-4-4 on the season. Kris Goodjohn was kept off the score sheet as his consecutive game-scoring streak was also halted, his at 8 games, in the loss.
