Royals Exchange Forwards With Bears…Defenseman Returns From Monarchs

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals, affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and AHL's Manchester Monarchs, have announced that left wing Mike Souza has been loaned to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, while centerman Graig Mischler has been returned by Hershey. Defenseman Adam Borzecki has been returned to Reading from the Manchester Monarchs.

Mike Souza returns to the American Hockey League after a brief stay in the ECHL with Reading this season. Souza, 26, appeared in twelve games with the Royals and notched six goals and nine points with 20 minutes in penalties. His six markers is tied for the team lead, plus he ranks first on the team in first goals scored (4). Souza's 45 shots are second to rookie winger Jeff Miles who has fired 54 shots on net. The Wakefield, Massachusetts native has appeared in 246 games in the American Hockey League and tallied 52 goals, 51 assists for 103 points with 236 penalty minutes. Souza signed a one-year ECHL contract with the Royals on November 5.

Graig Mischler returned to the American Hockey League after a year hiatus. The Holbrook, New York native began his professional career with the Cleveland Barons in 2001. He appeared in four games with Hershey this season scored no points but was a plus-1 with four penalty minutes. Prior to going to the Bears, the 26-year-old center tallied three goals and team-leading eight helpers for 11 points. His four power play assists and points leads the club. Mischler led the Royals in scoring last season with 13 goals and 44 assists for 57 points. He also chipped in five goals and 12 points in 12 Kelly Cup Playoff games during the 2003-04 season. Mischler was loaned to Hershey on November 29.

Borzecki, 26, appeared in six games with the Manchester Monarchs. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound native of Gdansk, Poland had no points, 10 penalty minutes and a plus-3 rating in the six appearances. Prior to signing the 25-game player tryout agreement with the Monarchs, Borzecki appeared in 10 games with Royals, where he had no points, 15 penalty minutes and a plus-8 rating. Borzecki has four goals, 25 points (4-21=25) and 237 penalty minutes in 170 career AHL games. He was loaned to the Monarchs on November 19.

The Reading Royals are entering their fourth season in Reading, Pennsylvania after relocating from Columbus, Ohio. The Royals enjoyed their first Kelly Cup playoff appearance last season, claiming the Northern Division Title and were one win away from qualifying for the Kelly Cup Finals. The Royals and the City of Reading are proud to be hosting the 13th annual ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition presented by Coors Light on January 25 and 26.

Reading returns to the Sovereign Center this Friday, December 10 to battle the Johnstown Chiefs. The Keystone Cup series heats up as the Royals look for revenge for Johnstown's 2-1 victory in Johnstown on November 5. It's Corporate Care night in the Sovereign Center with the first 1,500 fans receiving a Royals team picture. Reading hosts Wheeling on Saturday. Labatt Blue is handing out Royals foam gloves to the first 1,500 fans through the gate. The puck drops for both contests at 7:05 p.m.
