Atlanta Gladiators News Release


The Gwinnett Gladiators picked up four points this weekend in Florida and South Carolina with a 2-1-0-0 record for the week. The Gladiators remain in first place in the South Division and third in the Eastern Conference with an overall record of 35-24-2-1 and 73 points. Gwinnett remains on the road for another three games before the team returns to the Arena at Gwinnett Center on March 14th.

Utah Preview: The Utah Grizzlies are currently ranked last in the Mountain Division with 54 points and a 23-28-3-5 record. Utah lost their last outing 4-3 in a shootout to the Idaho Steelheads on March 2nd and have posted a 3-6-0-1 record in their last 10 games. Colin Vock leads the Grizzlies with 38 points on the season in 51 games and netminder Adam Morrison has earned a 3.71 GAA and 0.892 save percentage.

Idaho Preview: The Idaho Steelheads are ranked second in the Mountain Division with a 36-15-1-6 record and 81 points. Idaho has posted a 6-2-0-2 record in their last 10 games. Forward Austin Smith leads the Steelheads with 35 points in 26 games. Goaltender Mark Guggenberger has notched a 0.918 save percentage and a 2.20 GAA with the Steelheads. Gwinnett has posted a 1-0-1-0 record against Idaho this seson.

Tuesday, February 26: Gwinnett 2, South Carolina 1 - W

"ªYuri Bouharevich scored his second goal of the season 2:38 in overtime to lift the Gwinnett Gladiators to a 2-1 win over the South Carolina Stingrays on Tuesday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. South Carolina took a 1-0 lead 5:31 into the first period on a goal by Ryan Hayes. Gwinnett answered midway through the second on Evan Bloodoff's 17th goal of the season to snap Stingray's netminder Ryan Zapolski's shutout bid. Zapolski entered the game looking for his fourth consecutive shutout and a new ECHL record for consecutive shutouts but came up short in the overtime loss.

Friday, March 1: Gwinnett 5, Florida 2 - W

Defenseman Cody Brookwell scored the first goal of the game 1:56 into the first period to give Gwinnett the 1-0 advantage. The Gladiators scored three goals in the second period to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Rookie Scott Arnold picked up his sixth goal of the season 8:57 into the second; Ryan Donald then scored the third goal for the Gladiators 10:34 into the second with his third goal of the season while Evan Bloodoff collected his 18th goal of the season for Gwinnett. Corey Trivino got the Everblades on the board at the 6:12 mark of the third period, followed by Aaron Bogosian's tally 16:34 into the period. Joey Haddad closed the scoring with an empty-net goal with 2:14 left in the third period.

Saturday, March 2: Florida 3, Gwinnett 2 - L

The Florida Everblades held on for a 3-2 win over the Gwinnett Gladiators on Saturday night at the Germain Arena. Florida took a 3-1 lead on Gwinnett 2:16 into the third period on Corey Tevino's 10th goal of the season. After Mathieu Roy and Nick Walsh exchanged goals, it was Aaron Bogosian who gave the Everblades a lead they wouldn't relinquish with a shorthanded marker at 16:59 of the second. Sacha Guimond notched a goal and an assist for Gwinnett in the loss as he cut the Everblades lead back to one with 45 seconds left in the third.

News & Notes:

No Power Play Goals: In last week's road trip the Gladiators did not give up any power plays goals in the 12 opportunities given. Gwinnett is currently ranked third overall on the penalty kill on the road, killing off 85.6 percent of power play chances. In the last five games, the Gladiators have only given up two power play goals in 20 opportunities.

Gone Again! Evan Bloodoff and rookie forward Doug Jones have both been called back up the American Hockey League. Bloodoff returns to the AHL where he posted a +1 in the Pirates 7-1 loss at Providence yesterday. He did not register a point in seven games while with the Pirates from January 7th through February 13th and was scoreless in one game with Portland before he was assigned to Gwinnett on October 22nd. Jones has been called up to the Texas Stars where he has skated in two games and earned his first AHL goal in a 5-4 shootout loss to Oklahoma City on Saturday night.

Five in a Row! Forward Evan Bloodoff set a Gladiators team season-high for most consecutive games with a goal in Friday's 5-2 win over the Florida Everblades. Bloodoff set the current team season-high of five in consecutive games from Feb. 19th - March 1st. Snapped in 3-2 loss to Florida on March 2nd, Bloodoff has picked up seven points (five goals, two assists) in his last six games with Gwinnett and has collected 35 points in 42 games with the Gladiators this year.

O'Neill: Newcomer Jody O'Neill has been between the pipes for Gwinnett's last five games and has posted a 3-2-0-0 record. O'Neill was acquired from Las Vegas after he played in three games with the Wranglers. The Nepean, ONT native has earned a 0.920 save percentage and a 2.41 GAA in five game with Gwinnett.

Point Up: Defenseman Ryan Donald scored seven points in the past 10 games to push his point total to 17 on the year in 52 games with Gwinnett. Yuri Bouharevich has notched five points between Feb. 9th and March 1st since he was signed by Gwinnett on January 12th. Joey Haddad racked up 15 points in the month of February as he pushed his point total for the season 22 points in 34 games.
