Stingrays Weekly: Faith and Fun Night, Hat Trick for Reading Highlight Weekend vs. Road Warriors

The South Carolina Stingrays hosted the Gwinnett Gladiators and Fort Wayne Komets at the North Charleston Coliseum this week for a week record of 1-0-2-0.

The week kicked off on Tuesday night against the Gladiators. Forward Ryan Hayes gave the Stingrays an early lead, but the Gladiators fought back for a 2-1 overtime victory. Goaltender Ryan Zapolski saw his shutout streak come to a close at 212 minutes and 32 seconds.

Friday evening marked the first-ever meeting between the Stingrays and the Komets. Forward Andrew Cherniwchan scored a late first-period goal and forward Tyler Johnson netted the only goal in the shootout to propel the Stingrays to a 2-1 win. Zapolski added 33 saves and stopped all five Komets shooters. The Komets responded with a 2-1 overtime decision Saturday night. Forward Patrick Gaul recorded the lone tally for the Stingrays.

Taking the Lead

The Stingrays are third in the South Division with 69 points and seventh overall in the Eastern Conference.

Goaltender Ryan Zapolski is first in the ECHL with a 1.68 goals-against average, a .939 save percentage and seven shutouts. The Erie, Pennsylvania, native is tied for third among netminders with 21 wins.
