Gron Named ECHL Rookie of the Month

Boise, ID (3/4/13) - The Idaho Steelheads, in conjunction with the ECHL, announced Monday that forward Tyler Gron has been named the Reebok Hockey ECHL Rookie of the Month for February.

Gron is the third Steelhead player - second in a row - to be take home the monthly award for top rookie. Goaltender Josh Robinson received the award in November and Austin Fyten received it in January.

The 23-year-old Alberta product had ten goals in 13 games for Idaho during February, including two-goal games against Utah (Feb. 8) and San Francisco (Feb. 23). He finished the month with 17 total points (ten goals, seven assists) and a plus-six rating. He also wrapped up the month with points in four consecutive games to help Idaho finish the month with a record of 7-4-2.

In all, Gron has 22 points (14 goals, 8 assists) in 22 games since joining Idaho in January. He's in his first professional season out of Northern Michigan University.

Gron and the Steelheads return to the ice Tuesday and Wednesday at CenturyLink Arena in Boise, hosting the Colorado Eagles. Game time each night is 7:10 PM.
