Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators (40-18-7-4) remain in first place in the Eastern Conference with 91 points with three regular season games remaining in the 2011-12 season. Gwinnett is five points ahead of the Greenville Road Warriors in first place in the South Division. The Gladiators won their third consecutive game on Saturday night in Greenville for the team's 40th win of the regular season. The win was Gwinnett's 10th win in their last 11 games. The Gladiators are at Florida for three games to round out the regular season on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
Florida Everblades Preview:
The Gladiators have posted an 8-2-2-0 record against the Florida Everblades this season. In their last four meetings, the Gladiators have collected four straight wins. The Everblades (37-25-2-5) are third in the South Division with 81 points. Forward Matt Beca leads Florida in scoring with 20 goals and 38 assists (58 points). Scott Pitt is tops for the Everblades in plus/minus ranking with a +20. Forward Mathieu Roy has collected 10 points against the Gladiators in their previous 12 battles. Rookie netminder Pat Nagle has had nine starts against Gwinnett, posting a 3-4-0-2 record. Nagle has 2.90 goals against average and a .903 save percentage on the season.

Friday, March 23: Gwinnett Gladiators, 3, Greenville Road Warriors, 2 - SOW
"ªThe Gwinnett Gladiators pulled off a dramatic comeback win on Friday night at the BI-LO Center, knocking off Greenville 3-2 in a shootout to add to their lead atop the South Division and the Eastern Conference. Forward Joey Haddad scored the tying goal with 8 seconds left in the third period to take the game into overtime. After a scoreless overtime, the game proceeded into a shootout. Tyler Murovich lifted Gwinnett to a 3-2 win in the sixth round of the shootout. Rookie forward Doug Jones scored his first professional goal in his first professional game as a Gladiator to get Gwinnett on the board in the second period.
Saturday, March 24: Gwinnett Gladiators, 3, Greenville Road Warriors, 2 - W
The Gwinnett Gladiators posted a 3-2 win over the Greenville Road Warriors on Saturday night at the BI-LO Center in Greenville. Captain Paul Flache picked up the game-winner for Gwinnett at 9:25 of the third period. Nikita Kashirsky finished with a goal and an assist for Gwinnett in the win. Marc Cheverie collected 31 saves for Gwinnett for his fifth straight win after being assigned to Gwinnett from AHL Portland on March 9th.
News & Notes:
Playoff Bound: The Gladiators clinched a top four seed in the playoffs after the 3-2 shootout victory over the Greenville Road Warriors on Friday night. In the win, the Gladiators secured home ice at the Arena at Gwinnett Center for the first round of playoffs. The first three games will be Friday, April 6th (7:05 p.m.), Easter Sunday, April 8th (2:05 p.m.), and Monday, April 9th (7:05 p.m.).
Jumping Right In: Former Dartmouth forward Doug Jones jumped right into the line up this weekend against the Greenville Road Warriors, posting his first two professional points. In his debut on Friday night, the Marietta, Georgia native scored his first professional goal in the 3-2 shootout win over the Road Warriors. On Saturday, Jones collected an assist in the 3-2 victory over Greenville.
Nothing Runs Like a Cheverie: Netminder Marc Cheverie collected his fifth straight win for the Gladiators in the 3-2 victory over the Greenville Road Warriors Saturday night. Since his return from the Portland Pirates of the AHL, Cheverie has had five consecutive wins in the crease for Gwinnett with four coming against Greenville. The Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia native has 2.77 goals against average and earned a .908 save percentage in his 20 games as a Gladiator this season.
Changing it Up: On Tuesday, March 20th, Forward Joey Haddad returned from his second trip up to the AHL, as he was re-assigned from the Hamilton Bulldogs. Haddad jumped right back into the Gladiators line up as he posted the game tying goal with 8 seconds left in Friday's 3-2 shootout win over the Greenville Road Warriors. In 40 games with the Gladiators, Haddad has earned 16 goals and 16 assists for 32 points.
Leading the Team: With three games remaining this year, Gwinnett has no players with 50 or more points this season. Gwinnett has never finished with a leading scorer with fewer than 50 points in a single season. Adam Berti is Gwinnett's lowest leading scorer in team history, who earned 57 points in the 2009-10 season. Nikita Kashirsky leads the Gladiators with 48 points on the season. Pat Galivan, Bryan Brutlag and Tyler Murovich each have 46 points.
40 Wins: With the 3-2 win over the Greenville Road Warriors on Saturday night, the Gladiators collected their 40th win of the regular season. It is the 6th time in team history that the Gladiators have posted 40 or more regular season wins in a season. Gwinnett posted a team high 50 wins in the 2005-06 season. Wins in each of the next three games will push the 2011-12 Gladiators squad to 43 win and into third all time for most wins in a season behind the 2005-06 team (50) and the 2007-08 team (44).
Upcoming Events:
The Gladiators have secured home ice in the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs and can finish no lower than 4th place in the Eastern Conference. Gwinnett has elected to host Games 3, 4 & 5 of the opening round series at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. The Gladiators will begin the playoffs on the road with Games 1 & 2 at the lower seed. The Gladiators first round opponent is still to be determined. Gwinnett will have home playoff games on the following dates:
Game 3: Friday, April 6th at 7:05 p.m.
Game 4: Sunday, April 8th at 2:05 p.m. (if necessary)
Game 5: Monday, April 9th at 7:05 p.m. (If necessary)
