Abney, Lowery Recalled to Oklahoma City

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, announced rookie right wing Cameron Abney and defenseman Ryan Lowery have been recalled from the Thunder to the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League.

Oklahoma City plays next on Friday at 5:00 p.m. against Milwaukee.

Abney, 20, has skated in 12 games with Oklahoma City this season, collecting 24 penalty minutes.

The 6-foot-5 and 205 pound forward ranks second among ECHL rookies with 132 penalty minutes and has suited up in 29 games for the Thunder in 2011-12, scoring five points (2g-3a).

Abney was selected by the Oilers in the third round (82nd overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and appeared in two games for Edmonton at this season's YoungStars Tournament, collecting an assist, a +1 rating and fighting major.

Lowery, 23, has collected seven points (1g-6a) and two penalty minutes in 22 games with the Thunder this season.

The 5-foot-11 and 189 pound blueliner was signed to an AHL contract with Oklahoma City on Sept. 23, 2011 and has notched seven points (1g-6a), 16 penalty minutes and a +1 rating in 26 games with the Barons. He skated with the Oilers in the 2011 YoungStars Tournament in Penticton, B.C. and scored a goal in two games.

The Thunder acquired Lowery's ECHL contract rights from the Greenville Road Warriors on Jan. 24 in exchange for right wing Bretton Cameron.

The Thunder returns to the road for its next game on Wednesday at Century Link Arena against the host Idaho Steelheads at 6:10 p.m. The game will be carried on radio at 1280 AM KWSX and online for viewing (pay-per-view video charge) and listening (free of charge) at www.StocktonThunder.com, courtesy of AmericaOne.

The first round schedule for the Kelly Cup Playoffs will be announced soon.
