Atlanta Gladiators News Release
Special Teams: The Gladiators own the best power play unit in the American Conference, with 31 power play goals in 142 man-advantages, good for 21.8 per cent. The Gladiators also own the league's second best road penalty killing unit, killing off 73 out of 83 (88%) opposition power plays away from home.
Leader: In the absence of Tom Zanoski, Adam Berti leads the Gladiators with 26 points on 7 goals and 19 assists and currently owns a four-game assist streak with five.
Rookies: Pat Galivan leads all Gladiator rookies with 22 points and is tied for ninth in the league, while Sam Roberts has nine assists and 12 points in his last 11 games.
¡¡
Lighting the Lamp: The Gladiators rank second in the league in goals per game with 3.73.
Basement: The Gladiators reappeared in the South Division basement after splitting a weekend series with Kalamazoo. They currently sit in fourth place with 31 points through 26 games, tied with Kalamazoo for the fewest games played in the league. South Carolina leads the division with 48 points through 33 games, the most games played in the league.
On the Road: The Gladiators suffered their first two road losses of the season in back to back games against Wheeling and Kalamazoo but still own the third best road winning percentage in the league with a 9-2-2-0 mark.
¡¡
Helpers: Adam Berti now leads the Gladiators in assists with 19 in 26 games played, eclipsing previous team assist leader and currently injured Brad Schell, who set the mark of 18 in just 12 games played. Berti is tied for eighth in the league in the assist column.
¡¡
Shorty: Patrick Galivan scored the Gladiators' first non-empty-net short handed goal in the second period of their 4-3 comeback win at Kalamazoo on Saturday.
Holding the lead: The Gladiators are 10-0-2-1 when scoring first and 8-0-1-0 when leading after two periods.
Approaching: Forward Brad Schell, who has 246 assists as a Gladiator, is just 4 helpers shy of becoming only the 2nd player in Gwinnett/Mobile history to reach 250 and 7 shy of the Gladiators/Mobile all-time record of 253 held by Jason Elders, who played with Mobile from 1995-2002.
Power: Forward Scott Mifsud currently sits tied for 7th with David Creievich, who played with Mobile from 1995-2000, in Mobile/Gwinnett history with 22 power play goals and needs just four more to move into a tie for 6th with Jim Jackson (2003-2009) and Jeff Campbell (2004-2008).
Last Week¡¯s Games:
December 18, Kalamazoo 4, Gwinnett 2 - L
The Gladiators dropped just their second road game of the season in their first ever trip to Kalamazoo. After a scoreless first period, the Wings registered three unanswered goals before Matt Siddall got the Gladiators on the board 13:11 into the third period on assists from Brian Kaufman and Chad Denny to cut the lead to two. But the Wings restored their three-goal lead just 44 seconds later on a Brian McGuirk goal. The Gladiators again cut the lead to two with less than two minutes remaining in regulation, but it wouldn't be enough, as Gwinnett dropped their second straight road game. David Brown finished with 28 saves in the loss, and the Gladiators fell to 8-2-2-0 away from home.
December 19, Gwinnett 4, Kalamazoo 3 ¨C W
The Gladiators got back into the winning column with a come-from-behind overtime victory over Kalamazoo, their first ever victory over the Wings, one day after suffering their second straight road loss. The Wings opened up a 3-1 lead entering the final period, but the Gladiators had third period goals from recently reassigned Tim Miller and Jason Lawrence to force overtime, and Patrick Galivan scored his second of the night with less than a minute remaining in the extra period to lift the Gladiators to victory and avoid a three-game losing streak. The Gladiators finished 1-6 on the power play and killed off all five Kalamazoo power plays to improve to 14-9-2-1. David Brown made 38 saves to improve to 4-4-0-1 on the season.
