Gladiators snap skid in 4-3 win

Two third period goals by Blue Bennefied and Phil Lewandowski's fifth round goal in the shoot out secured the Gladators 4-3 win over the South Carolina Stingrays in front of another record crowd of 7,638 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

Chris Allen picked up a rebound in the slot and ripped a shot over the shoulder of Gladiators goaltedner Mike Buckley to give the Stingrays an early 1-0 lead. Kevin Spiewak added an assist on the goal at 3:49 of the period.

Kris Goodjohn tied the contest at 15:43 of the first period as he picked up the puck in the slot after Anthony Aquino put a snapshot off the post. Aquino and Cam Brown had assits on the goal at 15:43 of the first period.

With Goodjohn's goal, fans at the Arnea at Gwinnett Center filled the ice with hundreds of teddy bears for the Gladiators teddy bear toss for charity as all the teddy bears collected will be donated to local children's charities.

South Carolina took a 2-1 lead 6:41 into the second period as Dave Seitz took a centering feed from Chris Allen and beat Buckley over the shoulder. Ed Courtenay added an assit on the 5-on-3 power play goal for the Stingrays.

Blue Bennefield tied the contest up at two as he found an opening and beat goaltender Brumby at 5:36 of the third. Joe Bourne added an assist on the goal.

South Carolin regained the lead at 7:51 of the third on a Ed Courtenay goal. Matt Derosiers and Dave seits added the assists on South Carolina;s second 5-on-3 goal of the night.

The Gladiators tied the contest up at three on Blue Bennefield's second goal of the night. Bennefied took a pass from Jim Jackson and beat Brumby through the five hole. Phil Lewandowski also added an assist on the goal at 11:36 of the third.

Mike Buckley records his first win of the season as he made 33 saves in the win for the Gladiators who improve to 23-13-3 on the season.

The Gladiators are back in action on January 24th when they travel to South Carolina to take on the Stingrays in a 7:30 p.m. tilt at the North Charleston Coliseum.
