Charlotte Checkers News Release

(Atlantic, New Jersey – Saturday, January 17 ) Charlotte's offensive woes continued Saturday afternoon in Atlantic City as the Boardwalk Bullies shut out the Checkers 4-0 at Boardwalk Hall. Stefan Rivard had a pair of goals for the Bullies and goalie Jake Moreland made 20 saves in the shutout victory. The Checkers were shut out for the second consecutive game, and have been shut out for eight straight periods dating back to last Sunday's loss in Augusta. Charlotte also fell to 0-4-1 in its last five games. Meanwhile the Bullies won their sixth straight game and improved to 12-0-1 in their last 13 games.

"Our veteran players are not scoring and as a team we're not scoring," quoted Checkers coach Don MacAdam. "None of our forwards have scored a goal in the last three games. Had it not been for Meyer (Charlotte goalie Scott Meyer) the score could have been 8-0 today. He was terrific and our goalies continue to give us a chance to win."

Atlantic City dominated period one, outshooting the Checkers 15-4, but thanks to Checkers goalie Scott Meyer the two teams went to the locker room scoreless after the first 20 minutes. In the second period the Bullies scored three time for a 3-0 lead. Rivard knocked one in by Meyer just 18 seconds into the period for a 1-0 Atlantic City advantage. Two goals in a 1:16 span increased the Bullies lead to 3-0. After a Dusty Jamieson penalty. Rivard scored his second of the game at 11:50 on a power play for a 2-0 advantage. A minute and 16 seconds later AC's Josh Prudden tallied against Meyer and the Bullies took the 3-0 lead to the locker room after 40 minutes.

The Bullies added a final insurance goal at 16:58 of the final period for the 4-0 final. The Checkers fell to 18-16-5 for 41 points while Atlantic City closed in on first place in the Northern Division improving its record to 26-9-1 for 53 points. Charlotte will be out of action for four days for the All-Star break, and returns to practice Thursday at Cricket Arena. The Checkers will then resume play Friday night at home hosting the Greensboro Generals at Cricket Arena at 7:30 p.m.

NOTES: The Checkers signed center Richard Keyes on Saturday. Keyes has not played this season after rehabbing an injury from last year after playing for Kalamazoo in the United Hockey League.......Center Ryan Cuthbert was scratched Saturday after suffering an injury Friday night in Reading. Cuthbert has been placed on the seven-day injured reserve list.....Right Wing Brandon Cullen left Saturday's game in the second period and did not return. Cullen aggravated an earlier injury and the Checkers decided to hold him out of the rest of Saturday's game as a precaution.
