Pride drop second straight to Inferno

FLORENCE, SC -- The Florence Pride dropped their second straight game Saturday night, falling 7-5 to the Columbia Inferno in front of 2,916 fans at the Florence Civic Center.

The Inferno had a 3-1 lead after the opening 20 minutes, on a pair of goals by Matt Ulwelling and a single tally by Paul Cabana. Shaun Sutter, scored the only Pride goal of the period, connecting on a power play at the 11:28 mark.

Florence trailed 5-2 late in the second before pulling within one. At the 16:41 mark, Wes Goldie rifled a shot over the shoulder of Columbia goaltender Josh Blackburn for his team-leading 21st of the season. Just 2:02 later, Jeff Szwez scored his second goal of the night, off of assists from Goldie and Bobby Russell.

But, the Pride could not carry the momentum into the final period, and the Inferno would add two more goals, from Robin Carruthers at 12:54 and Derek Eastman at 14:39.

Florence breaks for the All-Star Game, and will return to action next weekend with a pair of road contests. Friday, the Pride are at Columbus at 7:30, and on Saturday, they are in Columbia for a 2:00 matinee. Both games can be heard on WDAR Sunny 105.5 FM starting with the Palmetto Chiropractic Pre-Game Show 20 minutes prior to face off.

The Pride are back home on Saturday, Janaury 31, hosting the Greenville Grrrowl at 7:30 on Church Night. Following the game, local recording artists N'Accord will perform a post-game concert.
