Gladiators shut out by Stingrays, 2-0

The Gwinnett Gladiators couldn't overcome two second period goals as they fell to the South Carolina Stingrays 2-0 on Saturday night in North Charleston.

South Carolina took a 1-0 lead early in the second period on a goal by Robin Gomez who flipped the puck over an out stretched Gladiators netminder Mike Buckley. Andy Powers fed Gomes in the slot to pick up an assist on the goal at 1:32 of the period. Matt Desrosiers also had an assist on the goal.

Jim Lorentz pushed the Stingray's lead to 2-0 on a two-on-one break at 7:54 of the second period. Shawn Skiehar added an assist on the insurance goal for the Stingrays.

Mike Buckley made 32 saves for the Gladiators in the loss who fall to 23-14-3 on the season.

The Gladiators are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Greensboro for a 7:05 p.m. start against the Generals. The Gladiators return home to face the Charlotte Checkers on Thursday, February 5th at 7:05 p.m. following the Gladiators five game road trip. It's College Night. Bring a valid college ID only to the Arena at Gwinnett Center box office and get a $5 mezzanine level ticket.
