Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ (January 24, 2004) â The Titans rode past the Roanoke Express with a 4-0 effort at Sovereign Bank Arena. Rookie forward Nick Deschenes tallied his first three points of the season with the Titans as he notched a goal and a pair of assists. Andrew Allen also recorded his second shutout of the season, stopping all 17 Roanoke shots.
B.J. Kilbourne recorded the game's first goal 2:40 into the first period, when the rebound from Kilbourne's shot deflected off a Roanoke defenseman and trickled into the net. It would prove to be all the Titans needed tonight, but they would add three more goals in the second period for good measure.
While on a power play, Dan Riva scored the Titans' second goal as he took a rebounded shot from Chris Pittman and put a wrist shot past Roanoke goaltender Jason Wolfe on the far side, 5:01 into the second period. Seven minutes later, Deschenes struck with his first goal of the season as he took a feed in the slot from Matt Herneisen and directed it past Wolfe inside the near post to put the Titans up 3-0.
Bryce Cockburn would tally the final goal, his 6th of the season, with 5:30 remaining in the second period, as he barreled down the ice with Nick Descenes on a 2-on-1 to slip a wrist shot past Jason Wolfe.
In addition to earning his second shutout of the season and in his last six starts, Andrew Allen improved his record to 11-11-3 on the season as the Titans defense allowed only 17 Roanoke shots. The victory tonight, combined with Cincinnati and Toledo losses, catapulted the Titans into 6th place in the Northern Division with 39 points in 36 games.
