Beaumont, TX -- Bobby Brown scored two goals and Jamie Johnson tallied two assists in the IceGators' win over the Texas Wildcatters tonight at Ford Arena. The first game of the home-and-home series between these two teams went well for the Gators as they won 5-1.

Rod Sarich opened the scoring in the first period, with the Gators on a power play. He planted himself right in front of Davis Parley's goal and waited. His patience paid off as Semir Ben-Amor passed the puck to Sarich, off a feed from Johnson.

Armands Berzins lit the lamp at 8:11 of the second. He skated through the slot and put a wide wrist shot past the goalpost. He caught his own rebound off the back boards and shoveled the puck under Parley.

Captain Bobby Brown added his 20th of the year early in the third when he caught a pass from Maxime Fortunus and skated in stick side on Parley. His wrister hit the back of the net and put the Gators up 3-0.

Derek Gustafson's shutout bid was spoiled when Brad Fraser skated in on the power play, and clanged the puck off the near post and the crossbar. Gustafson was perfect in net after that, keeping the ‘Catters to one goal. He faced 40 shots through 60 minutes.

Jamie Johnson earned his second assist of the night when he sprang Brian Herbert from the Gators' end. Herbert skated into the Wildcatters' zone and deked Parley out of position. Herbert was skating in his first game back from injury.

Brown scored his second of the night with a soft shot from the crease that found its way under Parley. The Gators were on the power play when Ben Storey found Alex Materukhin who shot the puck to Brown as he skated through the crease. Ford Arena fell silent as the lamp was lit above Parley. The Gators put 50 shots on Parley tonight.

The Wildcatters will visit the Frozen Swamp Saturday, January 24 for the second game of the back-to-back series. The puck will drop at 7:05 pm. On Sunday, the Florida Everblades will play their only game in Lafayette this season at 4:05 pm.
