Louisiana IceGators News Release

Lafayette, LA -- The Louisiana IceGators finished their home-and-home series with the Texas Wildcatters the same way they started it: with a win. Only this time, they kept the ‘Catters off the board completely.

Coming off a 5-1 victory at Ford Arena last night, the Gators shot out of the gate and gave the crowd at the Cajundome an exciting first period. The Gators put an offensive barrage on 'Catters goalie Davis Parley in the first 20 minutes of play as Parley faced 24 shots, including the one that slipped past him.

Konstantin Kalmikov scored his 18th goal of the year, a power play tally, with a tight shot from the glove side that slipped between Parley and goalpost. Jamie Johnson racked up his 26th assist of the season. And he did not stop there. Ben Storey earned his 27th helper on the goal.

The second period was calmer than the first, with just one penalty for the IceGators in the middle frame. That was quite a contrast from the seven power play opportunities each team had in the first 20 minutes.

Jamie Johnson opened the third period scoring with wrister from between the circles. His seventh of the year was assisted by Rod Sarich and Ben Story, who put up his second helper of the evening.

Konstantin Kalmikov scored his second goal of the evening after catching a cross-ice pass from Jamie Johnson. Kalmikov caught the puck at the top of the circle and put it stick-side on Parley. Maxime Fortunus earned the second assist on the tally.

Ed McGrane capped the scoring at 18:26 of the third period when he skated toward the end boards, looped back toward the middle, caught the pass from Alex Materukhin and put a backhander right into the twine. Bobby Brown started the play when he sprung Materukhin into the zone with a pass across the middle.

Derek Gustafson was perfect in goal for the Gators, stopping all 20 of the Wildcatters' shots. The last minute was tense, with the 'Catters on the power play, but Gustafson stymied all attempts to spoil his shutout.

The IceGators host the Florida Everblades tomorrow at the Frozen Swamp at 4:05 pm. The game will be the third of the year between these two teams and the first in Louisiana.
