January 19, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators snapped a two-game losing streak on Monday afternoon with their 2-1 victory over the South Carolina Stingrays. Goalie Joe Fallon made 40 saves in his second start with the team. The Gladiators took the lead at 2:01 of the first period when Myles Stoesz came from behind the net and tucked the puck in under goalie Ian Vigier's left skate. It was Stoesz's second goal of the season.
Fallon held the Stingrays scoreless through the middle stanza to keep the lead for Gwinnett. Vigier stopped Gwinnett's 12 shots on goal.
Jeff Mason pushed the lead to two in the final period with assists from Andy Brandt and Dirk Southern. Mason's goal came on the power play.
The Stingrays finally found a way to beat Fallon late in the contest with a goal from Travis Morin at 18:52. South Carolina had pulled goalie Vigier with two minutes to go and had six skaters on the ice.
The Gladiators continue the 2008-09 season on the road Friday, January 23rd at 7:30 p.m. as they take on the Florida Everblades in Estero, Florida.
Began in 1988-89 with five teams playing in four states, the Premier 'AA' Hockey League has grown into a coast-to-coast league that will have 21 teams in 16 states and British Columbia playing 864 games from Oct. 17, 2008 to Apr. 4, 2009.
