Trenton Devils News Release

TRENTON, N.J. (January 19, 2008) -- The ECHL announced Friday afternoon that Trenton Devils defenseman Ryan Gunderson has been selected to start in the ECHL All-Star Game for the second year in row. The event will take place in Reading, PA on Wednesday.

Gunderson joins teammate Matt Cohen, athletic trainer Michael Bronstein and play-by-play broadcaster Paul Roper as representatives for the Trenton Devils in the 2009 ECHL All-Star Game.

At last year's ECHL All-Star Game in Stockton, CA, Gunderson tallied two assists in the contest. He is the second player in Trenton history to be selected to two All-Star Games, the other being Scott Bertoli.

This season with the Devils, Gunderson has three goals and 26 assists for 29 points. He is second in the ECHL with 23 power play points (2g, 21a).

The native of Bensalem, PA appeared in all 72 games for Trenton last season, leading Devils defensemen with 46 points (4g, 42a). He finished the campaign with a promotion to the AHL's Lowell Devils, where he skated in three games.

The Reading Royals, the City of Reading and the Sovereign Center will host the 17th Annual ECHL All-Star Game on Jan. 21, 2009 and the 12th Annual All-Star Skills Competition on Jan. 20, 2009.

There have been 46 players from the All-Star Game who have gone on to play in the National Hockey League, including 29 since 2002 when the lineups began to include players who coaches felt were prospects to move up to a higher level.

The starting lineups are determined in voting by American Conference coaches, team captains, media directors, broadcasters and media members. Coaches also submitted the top prospects from within their conference to determine the final roster, with each of the 12 teams having a representative.

The Devils come out of the All-Star Break with a rematch against the Elmira Jackals Friday night at Sovereign Bank Arena, a 7:30 p.m. start. The first 1,000 kids 12-and-under will receive a youth hat, courtesy of The Lighthouse, Inc.
