
Gladiators Fall to Lynx in Shootout, 4-3

Despite falling behind 3-0 midway through the second period, the Gladiators were able to battle back and pick up a point in a 4-3 shootout loss on Friday night in front of a record crowd of 8,586 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
Augusta jumped out to a 1-0 lead with 1:38 remaining in the opening period as Todd Bennett snapped the puck past Gladiators netminder Adam Berkhoel. Terry Marchant and Jamie Johnson picked up the assists on the goal.
Two goals 39 seconds apart early in the second period gave the Lynx a commanding 3-0 lead. Josh St. Louis intercepted an errant outlet pass and beat Berkhoel at the 4:13 mark on am unassisted breakaway.
Ken Magowan hooked up with Matt Dzieduszycki and Louis Goulet at the 4:52 mark if the second period to give the Lynx the three goal lead. Magowan took a centering pass from Goulet and beat Berhkoel moving across the crease.
Kris Goodjohn's return to the line up gave the Gladiators a spark as he was able to deflect Chris Durno's slap shot from left point past Augusta netminder Jason Saal to get the Gladiators on the board. Rick Emmett added an assist as he fed a wide open Durno at the point.
The Gladiators scored a pair of third period goals to send the contest to overtime, their first third period markers of the season, both on the power play.
Jeff Campbell cut the Augusta lead to one goal at the 1:17 mark of the second period as he found a loose puck along the goal line and lifted the puck over the pad of Saal. Brett Engelhardt and Sam Ftorek added the assists on the power play goal. Rick Emmett's second goal of the season, a power play tally, at 13:55 tied the game at three. Emmett snapped a shot over the shoulder of Saal as he took a pass from Jim Jackson in the left wing face off circle. Chris Durno also chipped in an assist on the tally. Augusta used goal in the second round by Jamie Johnson and in the third round by Louis Goulet to get by the Gladiators lone goal score, Jeff Campbell in the shootout.
