February 24, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators scored a late third period goal by Jim Jackson while Kevin Doell, Anthony Aquino and Brandon Dietrich tallied goals in the shootout to help Gwinnett down the Florence Pride in a shootout 2-1 on Tuesday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
The Gladiators and the Pride skated to a scoreless first and second period as neither team could gain an advantage despite traiding power plays between the periods.
Skating with a shortended bench due to injuries, Florence broke a scoreless tie midway through the third period. Adam Elzinga jammed a loose puck past Gladiators netminder Trevor Prior at 11:09 of the final period on the power play. Shaun Sutter and Mark McRae added the assists as the puck was thrown off the end boards and slid into the slot were Elzinga beat Prior on the power play.
Jim Jackson answered for the Gladiators 1:12 later to tie the game at 1-1. Jackson picked up a puck in the slot and ripped a slap shot over the shoulder of Florence netminder Sebastien LaPlante for the unassisted goal at 12:21 of the third period.
Trevor Prior made 21 saves in the contest to help the Gladiators improve to 31-18-5 on the season. Gwinnett could not capitalize on their two power play opportunities in the game.
