Columbus' Tapp Named ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Columbus goaltender Jason Tapp is the ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week for February 16-22.

Tapp was 2-0-0 with a 1.00 goals against average and a .966 save percentage as Columbus went 3-0-0 to improve to 30-21-4 and fourth place in the Central Division.

The 5-7 and 182-pound Tapp made 29 saves in a 2-1 win against Central Division leader Louisiana on February 20 and stopped 28 of 29 shots in a 3-1 win against South Carolina on February 21.

Tied for the ECHL lead with four shutouts, Tapp is 11-3-1 with a 2.24 goals against average and a .914 save percentage in 17 games with the Cottonmouths.

Tapp was named ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week for January 5-11 after setting a team record for the longest shutout streak with 168:55, including back-to-back shutouts in his first two starts for Columbus.

Tapp began the season with Knoxville of the South East Hockey League and was 7-8-0 with a 2.74 goals against average and a .924 save percentage in 16 games.

Tapp played in 2002-03 with Knoxville in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League and also with the Nijmegen Tigers in the Netherlands. Born in Kelowna, B.C., Tapp played four years at Boston University going 18-22-4 with a 3.37 goals against average and a .883 save percentage in 52 games.

Runners Up: Jason Wolfe, Roanoke (3 gp, 2-1-0, 1.96 GAA, .952 save pct.) and Tyler MacKay, Wheeling (2 gp, 2-0-0, 0.50 GAA, .978 save pct.)
