
Rivermen Goaltender Valley Returned from Worcester (AHL); Rookie Haglund to Make Professional Debut

Peoria, Ill. (February 24, 2004) â Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that sixth-year goaltender Mike Valley has returned from call-up with the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate â the Worcester IceCats. He also announced that rookie forward Bobby Haglund will make his professional debut tonight against the Wheeling Nailers.
Valley â a 6-foot-1, 185-pound native of Richmond, British Columbia â has registered a 17-6-6 record for the Rivermen during 2003-2004 with a 2.27 goals against average (GAA) and a .914 save percentage. The 27-year-old netminder has also notched two shutouts this season, the eighth and ninth of his North American career. He posted a 3-2 overtime victory for Worcester in Providence on Sunday, stopping 24 of 26 shots.
Haglund â a 6-foot, 225-pound native of Worcester, Massachusetts â has spent four years away from organized hockey after a car accident derailed his career in 1999. A 1997 draft choice (eighth round, 206th overall) of the St. Louis Blues, the 26-year-old played two full seasons (1997-1999) at NCAA Division I Northeastern University, tallying 20 points (8g, 12a) and collecting 55 penalty minutes in 56 career games.
The Rivermen host the first place Wheeling Nailers tonight in the second of two in a row between the clubs. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at Carver Arena. It is a Two For Tuesday. Bud Lights and Medium Soft Drinks are available for $2.00 each.
The Peoria Rivermen are a member of the ECHL â America's Premier "AA" Hockey League.
