Giovinco Called into Italian National Team

Toronto FC forward Sebastian Giovinco has been called into the Italian national team by manager Roberto Mancini, the FIGC (Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio) announced today. Italy will host Ukraine in Genoa for a friendly match on Wednesday, October 10. Italy will then travel to Poland to for a UEFA Nations League match in Chorzów on Sunday, October 14.

Giovinco, 31, has earned 23 caps and has scored one goal for Italy. His most recent call-up came during UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying matches in October 2015. Giovinco appeared in victories over Azerbaijan on October 10 and Norway on October 13. He earned his first cap for Italy on February 9, 2011 in a friendly match against Germany. He scored his first international goal against Japan in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup; where Italy went on to win the Bronze medal. Giovinco was part of Italy's second place finish at the UEFA Euro 2012 tournament. He has represented Italy at every level beginning at U-16.

For Toronto FC this season, Giovinco has appeared in 35 matches, scoring 17 goals and 19 assists across all competitions (MLS, Concacaf Champions League, Canadian Championship and Campeones Cup).
