Gillespie Recalled By D-Backs, Doubles In First At-Bat

Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev. - Former Aces OF Cole Gillespie became the eighth Reno Ace in franchise history to make his Major League debut Wednesday, doubling in his only at-bat, a pinch-hit appearance against former Cy Young Award winner Chris Carpenter.
Gillespie, a former College World Series champion while at Oregon State, joined the Aces midway through the 2009 season after the D-backs acquired him in a trade with Milwaukee. The right-handed hitting outfielder hit .304 with 15 extra-base hits and 27 RBIs in just 42 games with Reno in 2009. This season, Gillespie was hitting .283 in 12 games before being recalled by the Aces' parent club Wednesday.
Gillespie is the first Ace in 2010 to make his Major League debut, joining Brandon Allen, John Hester, Rusty Ryal, Esmerling Vasquez, Trent Oeltjen, Bryan Augenstein and Daniel Schlereth, who all played for the Aces and made their Major League debuts last season. Like Gillespie, Hester's big-league debut was a memorable one, as he became the 101st player in Major League history to homer in his first-ever Major League at-bat.
There are currently six former Aces playing in the Major Leagues, all of who are on the Diamondbacks active roster. In addition, there are four current big-leaguers who saw time in Reno on Major League rehab assignments in 2009.
Gillespie took the roster spot vacated by LHP Jordan Norberto, who was optioned to Reno. Norberto is on the Aces active roster for tonight's doubleheader at Fresno.
The Aces return home this Saturday, with a four-game homestand against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. Single-game tickets for all games start at just $7, while ticket plans for the 2010 season start at just $220.
