New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

The New Orleans Zephyrs snapped a two-game losing skid on Thursday at Zephyr Field, defeating the Albuquerque Isotopes 5-3.

Albuquerque jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning off Z's starter Jorge Sosa. After Sosa gave up back-to-back singles to start the inning, Russ Mitchell grounded out to shortstop Emilio Bonifacio and ‘Topes catcher Lucas May hit a RBI single.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Zephyrs would tie the game at one. New Orleans used three consecutive singles as Danny Richar scored on Hector Luna's base hit. Luna would then waste little time in helping the Z's take a lead in the next inning.

After Bryan Petersen led off the bottom of the fifth with a single, Luna launched his third home run of the year to deep left-center field off Isotopes starter Josh Towers. Luna finished 2-for-3 with a walk and three RBI.

In his first start with the Zephyrs since 2007, Sosa pitched five innings, allowing one run on five hits while striking out five. He also laced an RBI double into the left field corner in the fourth inning to put the Zephyrs ahead.

Z's closer Scott Strickland converted his third save of the year with a perfect ninth inning. Taylor Tankersley, Kasey Olenberger and Strickland combined to retire the final 10 Isotopes of the game in order.

Towers lasted five innings, allowing five runs on nine hits, while surrendering one walk and striking out two.

Both teams are now 8-7 in the Pacific Coast League's Southern Division and will meet in the final contest of a four-game tilt on Friday night at 7:00 pm.
