
Giants wrap up season and prepare for playoffs

The Vancouver Giants concluded the 2003/04 Western Hockey League regular season with a busy 3-in-3 weekend in the B.C. Division.
Friday night, the Giants played their final home game of the season on Fan Appreciation Night and pulled out a 2-1 win over the Kelowna Rockets. J.D. Watt, playing his 1st game in the WHL, scored the opening goal for Vancouver, while Gilbert Brule netted the game winner in the 3rd period.
The following evening, the Rockets edged out the Giants 3-2 at Prospera Place. Mitch Bartley and Braden Appleby scored the Giants goals while Todd Ford made 37 saves in a losing cause.
Sunday night, the Giants wrapped up the regular season with a 4-1 loss in Cranbrook against the Kootenay Ice. Kyle Bruce got the lone Giants marker while Aaron Sorochan made 29 saves.
The Giants finish off the season with a record of 33-24-9-6. Vancouver's 81 points is good enough to finish the season in 2nd place in the B.C. Division and the Western Conference. The Giants will begin the WHL Playoffs with a Best-of-Seven Western Conference Quarterfinal series against the Kamloops Blazers. The 2nd straight appearance in the playoffs for the Giants begins this Friday.
The Giants will practice Tuesday March 16 at the Pacific Coliseum (3:00pm). The Giants will also practice Wednesday and Thursday at the Coliseum (11:00am).
