The Vancouver Giants enter the week one point out of top spot in the Western Hockey League as they prepare to host two of their top rivals this weekend.

Last Thursday, the Giants earned a point on the road falling 4-3 in a shoot-out to the Prince George Cougars. Evander Kane, Mario Bliznak, and Jonathon Blum scored for the Giants in a losing cause.

On Saturday, Vancouver posted their most lop-sided win of the season, shutting out the visiting Everett Silvertips 7-0. Kane led the way with two goals while netminder Tyson Sexsmith posted his WHL-leading 5th shut-out of the year. The Giants wound up out-shooting the Tips 40-13.

Sunday night, the Giants picked up their 20th win of the campaign as they defeated the Portland Winterhawks 6-1. Spencer Machacek scored twice, giving him a team-leading 18 goals on the year while Blum and Brent Regner each had three assists. Goalie Kraymer Barnstable needed to make 13 saves for his first WHL victory.

With an overall record of 20-7-1-3 (44 pts), the Giants prepare to play two home games this weekend. Friday December 7, the Giants entertain the Medicine Hat Tigers (7:30pm) while on Sunday December 9 they host the Kamloops Blazers (5:00pm).
