Vancouver, B.C. - The Vancouver Giants and Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Vancouver-Fraser Branch are teaming up to raise awareness about the importance of mental health during the Giants' game against the Victoria Royals on Friday, February 24th, at the Langley Events Centre.

The game will feature:

- A CMHA-run kiosk so fans can learn more about mental health

- Videos featuring Giants players talking about the importance of mental health

- Public address announcements about mental health

- A ceremonial puck drop with Jane Atherton, President of the CMHA Vancouver-Fraser Branch

- A puck toss to raise money for the CMHA

The awareness campaign is part of the ongoing commitment by the Giants and CMHA Vancouver-Fraser Branch to implement Talk Today. Talk Today provides mental health support for players and raises awareness about mental health and suicide prevention throughout communities across the WHL.

A key piece of the Talk Today program has been to educate players about mental health and suicide prevention. Every team has received mental health training specific to suicide prevention. Each team is also now linked to a CMHA Mental Health Coach, who provides support and mental health resources to individuals in need.

"CMHA Vancouver-Fraser is proud to partner with the Vancouver Giants to raise awareness of mental health in our communities and to support their players in strengthening their mental wellbeing, resiliency, and knowledge related to suicide prevention," said Michael Anhorn, Executive Director of CMHA Vancouver-Fraser. "Through education and awareness, we will ensure mental health for all players within the communities where they live, work and play."

"Our partnership with CMHA Vancouver-Fraser is incredibly important for several reasons," said Dale Saip, Senior Vice President of the Vancouver Giants. "The Talk Today program will ensure that our players have the support they need to tackle any mental health challenges that may arise, and the game on February 24th will be a great platform to raise awareness in our community about mental health issues."

Tickets for the February 24th game are still available, starting from $19.50.
