George sharp, Linton roughed up in loss
May 13, 2004 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA â For a second straight game, an Omaha starter worked four scoreless innings. However, in Triple-A baseball, development comes before winning. So, for a second consecutive game, the Royals starter had to watch his club lose to Sacramento. On Thursday, it was Chris George tossing four shutout stanzas, but removed after 68 pitches as the 24-year old lefty is rebounding from a recent abdominal injury. Sacramento went on to post a 6-2 victory before 2,605 fans at chilly Rosenblatt Stadium.
Doug Linton relieved George to begin the fifth inning in a scoreless tie. The veteran right-hander allowed a walk and two hits â including Mike Rose's two-out RBI single â in the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth, the Royals finally broke through against Sacramento starter Mike Ziegler (1-1). Rick Short led off with a sharp single off Ziegler's legs. Alexis Gomez followed with his team-leading third triple to tie the game at 1-all. The next batter, Gookie Dawkins, drove in Gomez with a sacrifice fly to center to put Omaha on top 2-1.
Linton (2-3) was chased in the sixth, but not before allowing four runs on five hits. Mike Edwards smacked a two-run double for his third hit of the game and fourth and fifth RBI of the series.
Sacramento scored its final run in the seventh on Mike Rouse's solo homer off Rudy Seanez. It was the only home run hit during a game that had winds gusting from left to right field at 25 miles per hour, making the 43 degree game time temperature drop to a 35 degree wind chill index.
On Wednesday night, Royals starter Zack Greinke managed to toss four shutout innings before reaching his pitch limit and left with a 1-0 lead, only to watch the River Cats rally against Omaha's bullpen for a 4-1 victory.
Omaha (15-20) will try to salvage a split of the series with Sacramento (19-16) with a win Friday at 7:05 p.m.: RH Mike Wood (5-2, 3.26) vs. RH Joe Dawley (1-1, 3.38). The pre-game show airs at 6:45 p.m. on Fox Sports Radio 1490 and at www.Oroyals.com. Fireworks, presented by Midwest Airlines, follow the game.
