Portland Beavers News Release
MEMPHIS - Scott Seabol homered and drove in three runs, including two as Memphis rallied to take the lead in the seventh inning, as the Redbirds came from behind to defeat the Portland Beavers Thursday night, 6-5.
Portland (16-19) held a 4-2 lead heading into the seventh, but the Redbirds scored four runs with two outs in the inning to win their third game over the Beavers in the series and their ninth in a row over Portland at AutoZone Park.
Memphis (17-16) put runners on first and second with singles by Yadier Molina and John Mabry to start the seventh. Then, with two outs, Blaine Neal (2-2) entered the game and issued a walk to Luis Ortiz to load the bases. Seabol tied the game with a two-run single through the left side and the Redbirds went up 6-4 on RBI singles from Jason Bowers and pinch-hitter Jerome Alviso.
Bernie Castro scored on Alex Fernandez' RBI single to left in the eighth, but the Beavers went down in order in the ninth to drop their third straight and their fifth straight road game.
Despite allowing all four runs (all but one unearned), starter Adam Wainwright stuck around long enough to get the win. Memphis used three pitchers in the final two innings to close out things, with Steve Stemle pitching the final 1.1 innings for his first save.
Humberto Quintero had two of Portland's four hits and gave the Beavers a 3-1 lead with a three-run home run that scored Rico Washington and Ben Petrick in the top of the second inning.
The Redbirds grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout by John Gall. Seabol's solo home run made it 3-2 in the second.
Portland upped its lead to two runs in the sixth on a bases-loaded fielder's choice by Fernandez.
The two teams wrap up the series Friday night at AutoZone Park at 5:05 p.m. (Pacific).
