Trappers game postponed
May 13, 2004 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Edmonton Trappers News Release
Today's Pacific Coast League game between the Edmonton Trappers and the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, originally scheduled to begin at 7:05 PM, has been postponed due to inclement weather. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Friday, May 14. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 12:05 PM with gates opening at 11:05 AM.
Edmonton has won the first two games in this series, coming from behind to do so on both occasions. The Trappers won in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night as pinch-hitter Luis Lopez delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the club a 3-2 win over the Sky Sox. Edmonton is 8-3 in games decided by two runs or less. The club has enjoyed playing at home so far in 2004, posting a 6-3 mark at TELUS Field. Edmonton is 3 ½ games behind the first-place Tacoma Rainiers in the North Division of the PCL.
There are currently 11 players on the disabled list between the Trappers and their big league affiliate, the Montreal Expos. Three of those players, pitchers Roy Corcoran and Seung Song, and infielder Henry Mateo, are on the Trappers' DL, but several of the players who have remained active in Edmonton are off to good starts. Veteran catcher Randy Knorr is fifth in the league with a .366 batting average and outfielder Ryan Church ranks seventh at .361.
Church is also among the league leaders in on-base percentage, where he is fifth at .448, and runs scored, where he is tied for fifth with 24. Leadoff batter Maicer Izturis is ninth in the league with a .437 on-base percentage. He is batting .435 (10-for-23) with seven runs scored in six games since taking over in the leadoff spot.
On the mound left-hander Scott Downs is 4-1 with a 3.35 ERA in seven starts and closer Pat Mahomes has five saves, tied for the fourth highest total in the league. Mahomes is 2-0 with a miniscule 1.23 ERA in 12 appearances so far in 2004.
The doubleheader will conclude this four-game series with Colorado Springs. Edmonton will begin a four-game set against the Albuquerque Isotopes on Saturday night at TELUS Field. The Isotopes, the top farm club of the Florida Marlins, are currently in second place in the Central Division and own a 18-16 record.
