Oshawa Generals News Release
Oshawa, Ontario - The Generals kept their perfect record against Ottawa intact on Friday night; they beat the 67's 4-1 before a crowd of 5,379 at the General Motors Centre. Oshawa carried a 2-goal lead into the third, before Boone Jenner struck twice, securing victory. Oshawa dominated territorial play, outshooting the 67's 50-16 in the win.
The Generals didn't waste any time in the first period, roaring into the frame by scoring just 17 seconds into the game. Extending his point streak to 7 games, Scott Sabourin stormed the zone and sliced a rolling puck past 67's goaltender, Clint Windsor. Sabourin's 27th gave the Generals a 1-0 lead.
Oshawa dominated the opening twenty, outshooting Ottawa 16-5, but Windsor's goaltending was impressive, keeping the 67's within reach. Highlights included a blocker save on an end-to-end rush by Scott Laughton, and a coast-to-coast, splits save on Tyler Biggs late in the frame. Not to be outshone, Generals starter Kenny Appleby was solid, making a series of pad stops on Ryan Van Stralen, keeping Oshawa's edge intact.
In the middle frame, Oshawa's offensive-zone pressure reached a fever-pitch, with the Generals outshooting Ottawa 21-3 in the period, and finally scoring their second goal in the period's final second.
Oshawa's speed forced Ottawa to take penalties. The Generals came close, but they couldn't connect on the power-play, hitting the post 3 times on two successive two-man-advantages.
In the dying seconds, Michael Dal Colle justified Oshawa's efforts, shovelling a backdoor shot past Windsor after a centering pass by Scott Sabourin. Dal Colle's 14th sent Oshawa into the third up by a pair.
The 67's found life, giving Oshawa a scare early in the third. Taking advantage of a scramble out front, Dante Salituro whacked home his 14th at 1:08, pulling the visitors to within 1.
Leaving nothing to chance, the Generals responded just 38 seconds later, with Boone Jenner scoring his 37th, a knuckler that caromed over Windsor's right shoulder and in.
Up 3-1, Oshawa finally connected on the power play, as Tyler Biggs spun away from the defender and found Jenner, who buried his 38th from the side of the net.
The final horn sounded a 4-1 Oshawa win, making the Generals a perfect 5-and-0 verses the 67's this season, with one more meeting remaining between the two teams.
Boone Jenner and Tyler Biggs picked up the first and third star selections.
Oshawa's home-stand continues this Sunday February 24th, when the Generals take on the division-rival, Peterborough Petes at the General Motors Centre. Puck drops at 6:05 PM.
