IceDogs Fall to Guelph 5-3

The Niagara IceDogs fell to the Guelph Storm by a score of 5-3 in Guelph on Friday night.

The first period would see Brent Moran be the story as the IceDogs rookie netminder would stop 12 shots, allowing the IceDogs to take a 1-0 on a Shayne Rover shorthanded 2-on-1 goal with 0.7 seconds left in the first. Shots after one were 12-6 Guelph.

The second period would see the IceDogs penalty kill do a great job killing off two 5-on-3s to keep the game at 1-0 through the first half of the frame. The second period would not go as well for the IceDogs however as Guelph would pick up three goals in the final six minutes to take a 3-1 lead into the third. Shots after 40 minutes were 27-13 Guelph.

The third period would see the IceDogs close the gap to one as Steven Shipley would continue his strong play, scoring to make it a 3-2 game. Guelph would answer back however minutes later to restore their two goal lead at 4-2. The IceDogs would not let up however, as Anthony DiFruscia would tip one home in front to bring the IceDogs back within one at 4-3 with just under five minutes remaining. The IceDogs would pressure for the equalizer late, but would be unable to tie things up and the Storm would add an empty netter to make it a 5-3 final. Final shots were 41-22 Guelph.

The IceDogs will now return home tomorrow night to close out their weekend by playing host to the Kingston Frontenacs at 7pm. Tickets for this and all other IceDogs home games are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations.
