Oshawa Generals News Release

Tonight the Oshawa Generals took on the Saginaw Spirit in what turned out to be a huge win for the Generals. The Generals were on a five game win streak and kept the streak alive tonight, making it six in a row. The win tonight brings the Generals to an 8-0 record on home ice.

The first period was an exciting one for the Generals, scoring five goals all in opening period. Jeremy Brodeur made his first start on home ice and made some great saves throughout the period and the game. Joe Manchurek opened the scoring tonight, securing his first goal of the season. The goal came assisted from Josh Sterk and Mitchell Vande Sompel. Before even a minute could pass, Vande Sompel was sent to the penalty box of an interference call. Despite the fact that the Generals were on a penalty kill, Sam Harding found his fifth goal of the season, scoring an unassisted, shorthanded goal. The Spirit answered the goal shortly after, as Connor Brown found the back of the net. The Generals didn't let this get to them as Mitchell Vande Sompel got one past Spirit goalie, David Ovsjannikov, giving the Generals a 3-1 lead over the Spirit. Following this, Keaton Middleton took the first Spirit penalty of the night on a call for cross-checking. Ryan Orban headed to the penalty box less than a minute later, this time on a roughing call.

Before the end of the period, the Generals scored two more goals, both from Cole Cassels, and both on Generals power plays, thanks to the abovementioned penalties. His first goal was assisted by Vande Sompel and Lindberg and his second goal was assisted by Vande Sompel and Smith. By the end of the period, Mitchell Vande Sompel had put up four points for the Generals. The period ended with the Generals outshooting the Spirit 21-11.

There was a change of pace in the second period and it was clear that Saginaw wanted to catch up to the Generals. The Spirit made a goalie switch and Nikita Serebryakov took a spot between the posts. Only 2:45 second into the second period, Devon Paliani scored the second Spirit goal of the night, narrowing the Generals lead to 5-2. A short time later, Dylan Sadowy, drafted by the San Jose sharks, found himself on a breakaway and put one past Brodeur on a shorthanded goal. It was the Spirit who outshot the Generals 13-9 in the second period, proving that they weren't ready to quit.

The Generals were eager to show what they were made of in the third period, not to be outdone by the Spirit. Sonny Hertzberg had the first penalty of the game for tripping, which the fans were not pleased with seeing it as an unintentional trip. Orban earned a holding penalty 5:23 into the period, putting the Generals on a powerplay. Tobias Lindberg took advantage of the powerplay and opened the third period scoring with a goal assisted by Vande Sompel and Dal Colle. They wouldn't stop there though as Hunter Smith found the back of the net at 8:53 with a goal assisted by Dal Colle. This goal gave the Generals a 7-3 lead over the Spirit. Only 13 seconds later, the Spirit answered the goal as Connor Brown scored his second of the evening. The Generals still had some more in them though, and Josh Sterk scored his first of the night and eighth goal for the Generals. The goal came assisted from Anthony Cirelli and Will Petschenig. Final goal of the game was from Connor Brown who secured a hat trick tonight.

Tonight, Jeremy Brodeur secured his first win on home ice and his first OHL win. The Generals once again proved the impact that they are making on the ice. An undying effort by the whole team tonight made this an exciting game for everyone involved. Final score here tonight was 8-5 for your Oshawa Generals.
