Sioux City Explorers News Release
Sioux City-----In the final game of the season between the two Central Division foes, Gary Southshore defeated the Explorers 9-3 at Lewis and Clark Park Wednesday.
It appeared promising for the Explorers when the home team took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Peter Barrows had a two-out double followed by a RBI single by Bryan Pounds. Both Barrows and Pounds finished the game with three hits apiece.
It was the third inning when the RailCats took the lead. With two outs and nobody on base, Gary had four consecutive hits and took a 3-1 lead. The RailCats added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to increase the lead to 5-1.
The Explorers would cut the lead to 5-3 in the sixth inning when Anthony Kaskadden led off the inning with his first home runs of the year. After Sam Judah doubled, Austin Gallagher singled and reduce the Gary lead to two runs.
However, Gary SouthShore would scored two runs in the eighth inning without a hit as relief pitcher Josh Poytress walked four batters and threw three wild pitches and Gary had a 7-3 lead.
The visitors added two more runs in the ninth inning in winning the three-game series two games to one and taking the season series from the Explorers eight games to six.
The Explorers will have an off day Thursday before getting back into action on Friday as they start a three-game series against Lincoln at Lewis and Clark Park. Game time Friday will be 7:05pm.
