Gary, IN-----Gary SouthShore defeated the Explorers 5-2 here Thursday to take the three-game series two games to one. The Explorers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a solo home run by Kris Sanchez, his 13th of the season, but the lead didn't last long. The RailCats sent ten batters to the plate in the third inning and scored four runs to take a 4-1 lead. The lead stayed that way until the seventh inning when Gary scored a run to increase the lead to 5-1. The Explorers had several chances as they left seven runners on base in a three-inning span. Even trailing 5-1 going into the ninth inning, the Explorers had four hits, but scored only one run as Wally Backman, Jr. struck out with two runners on base to end the game. The Explorers will now open up a three-game series Friday at Lincoln with game time 7:05.
