Kansas City Monarchs News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - A six-run second inning and strong pitching by Lucas Irvine helped the T-Bones defeat Grand Prairie, 9-4, in front of 5,506 on Friday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
In the six-run second, Hunter Mense blooped a single to right field that scored Trevor Coleman. Three batters later, Justin Bass pushed a single past the diving second baseman, Bryan Frichter, scoring three runs. Bass, who advanced to second after a wild throw by Lockwood, was credited with a single and RBI on the play. Ray Sadler finished off the scoring in the second with a single that scored two runs. The AirHogs committed three errors in the inning.
"I think it was a combination of us putting some good swings and them making a couple of defensive mistakes and we were able to capitalize," said T-Bones manager Kenny Hook. "I think that's a good sign, when they give our lineup extra outs that's what you should do, be able to capitalize and score some runs."
After Grand Prairie scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning, the T-Bones tacked on another run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by Brandon Jones, giving Kansas City a 7-2 lead.
With more than ample run support from an offense in which only two players in the T-Bones lineup did not get an RBI, Irvine (2-0) went seven innings, as he allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out six.
Kansas City (36-31) continues its nine-game homestand on Saturday with the second game of a three-game series against Grand Prairie (40-25). First pitch at CommunityAmerica Ballpark is scheduled for 7:05. To purchase tickets, call 913-328-5618.
