Fargo Rallies Four Unanswered, Series Shifts to Kansas City

Fargo, ND - Just as they did yesterday, the Monarchs got off to a hot start, but were unable to hold the lead as Fargo came from behind to win 5-4 and tie up the series.

After an empty first frame, Kansas City cracked the scoreboard in the second. Saul Garza registered a base-hit into right field while Onix Vega orchestrated a double to put two runners in scoring position. Two pitches later, JD Davis ripped an RBI double to score Garza and Vega. The line kept moving as Hudson Head reached base on a bloop single into shallow center. With runners at the corners, Tyler Gentry tagged a ball up the middle to score Davis. It was a 3-0 frame as KC threw the first punch in this game.

The Redhawks responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning when Dillon Thomas led off with an extra base-hit and Tucapita Marcano singled. With Thomas at third, Brian Fuentes put a ball in play to score Thomas and get Fargo on the board.

The youngest player on the roster, Sawyer Allen, made his first start in the playoffs and went four innings while allowing seven knocks, but only gave up a single tally. Wyatt Wendell and Buddy Reed each threw an inning and collected a pair of punch outs. The Southpaw, Ryan Anderson went the final two innings with a walk and a K.

KC answered with a lone run in the top of the third when Garza walked and Sahid Valenzuela tallied a hit. Garza made his way to third and then Davis was at it once again with his third RBI of the night on a grounder up the middle to bring in Garza. The Monarchs reestablished their three-run lead, but unfortunately it was the final time they crossed home plate the entire night.

In the fifth inning, the Redhawks would start their comeback. Juan Fernandez grabbed a base-hit and then the guy who hit 33 homers this season, Jose Sermo, added his 34th when he rocketed a ball to right and cut the deficit to one. It was 4-3.

Fargo would find the game-tying run in the sixth when they put together a two-out rally. Jesus Lujano walked and Fernandez singled while Eric Filia slapped a ball into right and Lujano raced home from second.

They would construct another two-out rally to score the eventual game winning run. With two away, Tripp Clark would triple on a ball smacked to right field. After Marcano walked, Fuentes put a bloop single that got down before Head could get to it and Clark scored the fifth run.

Kansas City left nine runners on base and had their opportunities to cash in more runs. Unfortunately, the Redhawks made some timely plays on the defensive side to hold the Monarchs scoreless for six-straight frames.

This series shifts to Kansas City and now at a 1-1 series, it becomes the best of three with all three games in KC. The Monarchs have a 4-2 series lead at Legends Field when these two teams matchup, but in playoff baseball, regular season stats don't matter. The series will come down to who can grab timely hits and have a reliable bullpen. First pitch is at 6:35 at Legends Field on Thursday night.
