GAME NOTES
Three Keys To The Game Presented By Nebraska Department Of Transportation
Key 1: Create Space In The Standings
- This weekend's double header comes with high stakes for both teams. The Stars and Buccaneers are currently tied with 34 points for the last playoff spot in the Western Conference but Lincoln holds the edge with one more regulation victory despite having two games at hand. Lincoln is 7-3 in its last 10 games while Des Moines has dropped six of its last 10, but both teams have won back-to-back entering tonight. The Buccaneers have won the first two matchups of the head-to-head season series on Oct. 28 and Nov. 17. With two wins this weekend the Stars have the opportunity to take four points and the outright lead for sixth place.
Key 2: Stop Ben Kevan
- The Buccaneers rookie forward has had a tremendous start to his USHL career. The Arizona State commit has filled up the stat sheet this season by recording the second-most points among rookies (34), the second-most goals (18) and fourth-most assists (17). Kevan has recorded six points in his last five games including two multi-goal games. He has recorded five total multi-goal games in his rookie campaign and has two goals and two assists in two games against Lincoln.
Key 3: Keep Mangan Rolling
- Stars forward Jared Mangan has been on a roll since the turn of the calendar to 2024. He has recorded at least one point in six-of-eight games and has three multi-point games. The Clarkson commit enters tonight with back-to-back multi-point games by virtue of a three point showing against Muskegon on Jan. 28 and then two assists in last Saturday's win vs. Omaha. Mangan's 31 points and 18 assists lead the Stars and he has 67 points (26+41) in 97 career regular-season games with Lincoln.
